Maren Laurence earned her Master’s Degree with merit from The Royal Academy of Music in Harp Performance in London studying under Karen Vaughan, former principal harpist of the London Symphony Orchestra. She received her Bachelor's Degree with honors from the University of Michigan studying under Joan Holland, including a half year of study at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands studying under Erika Waardenburg. Maren is also a certified Suzuki Teacher.

With over 20 years of experience, she has toured internationally including performances in the UK, Italy, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and extensively across the US. Maren frequently performs as a soloist, in ensembles and in orchestras. Maren is an active orchestral harpist and has most recently performed solo recitals in London and Salt Lake City. In addition to winning first place in the international solo and orchestral competition at the Salvi Summer Harp Competition & Institute, she has performed with numerous orchestras including the University London Symphony Orchestra, Salt Lake Symphony, Millennial Symphony Orchestra, American West Symphony, West Valley Symphony, Murray Symphony, Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and University of Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra, and more. 

Maren’s passion and joy is teaching students. As a teacher, Maren’s students range from young beginners to advanced students. Maren’s teaching style incorporates techniques, drills, and traditions from many schools of training thanks to her varied background. Maren’s teaching style generally incorporates UK, Salzedo/US, and French methods and techniques. Maren is also a Suzuki-trained harp teacher, with training from Mary Kay Waddington, author of the Suzuki harp method. Maren maintains a private studio of students in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her students frequently perform in youth ensemble groups and student orchestras and she looks forward to her annual harp ensemble performances with her students.

Maren has received various awards and accolades throughout her career. Maren was a recipient of the Musical Merit Scholarship for four consecutive years at the University of Michigan 2010-2014. She has performed at the American Harp Society’s National Conference as a member of the Premier Performances and was a member of the US National Harp Ensemble representing the Suzuki harpists in the US and performed at the World Harp Congress in Dublin, Ireland.

Maren is currently the Suzuki Association of Utah Vice President for Harp. Maren is involved with several service groups and does volunteer work with her harp. She is also the former president of Sigma Alpha Iota, a musical organization dedicated to musical outreach and service in the community.
